TOOLANGI – EASY TO IMPOSSIBLE!!!  ANZAC DAY, APRIL 25TH 2006

Trip participants: Louise, Jessica, Sarah and Chris Burton(trip leader);  Steve Westbury and Lance Griggs;  Ben Kelly and Erin;  Shane Davies;  Bruno and Andrew Pistone;  Theresa Smith and Henry Zanon;  Ken and Debbie Shewan;  Rick, Kirstie and Daniel Cori;  Graeme and Sue Harrison.

The group met at the usual spot at the intersection of the Melba Hwy and Healesville Rd.  The first track tackled was Rocky Tk. using the right hand side.  All vehicles progressed to the top without incident.  From here we turned into Victoria Range Tk.

Steve popped a tyre going down the muddy, slippery track.  Ben hooked onto him with his winch while Steve unpacked the useless piece of 4x4 equipment he had brought with him, namely the hi lift jack.  Those not involved with the vehicle recovery had morning tea.  ¾ of an hour to 1 hour later we were on our way again.

Our next adventure occurred when we can across some trees that were growing very close together.  The wider vehicles could not squeeze between them (Ken, Graeme and Rick) and had to find another way to get around.  This involved moving a fallen fern and some digging. The mud was very smelly, sticky and slippery which did not help the situation.

All vehicles clear we continued.  On our way again we came down a very steep, slippery track where we had many opportunities to practice our stall start and driving through the brakes skills to control the down hill descent speed of the vehicle.  At the end of this track (Cockpit Tk, I think) we picked up the Yea Link Rd, crossed the Yea River and finally came out onto Sylvia Rd.  From here we made our way back to the original starting point for a much deserved lunch.

Some of the tracks we used on the day were, Flat Rock Tk, Victoria Range Rd, Spraggs Rd, and Nolans Rd.

The group pumped up their tyres, boiled kettles, ate their goodies and posed for group photos. One by one the members gradually said their goodbyes and headed home to wash the mud off their vehicles and for some of us off ourselves.
