MATHOURA TRIP – NOV 2006

Our
trip leader (Anthony) and family (Arlene, Mia and Tash)
had a slow start to the day due to the fact that Anthony mislaid his keys. Once the keys were located in his work
vehicle they were on their way to meet Dean, Hayley,
Shane, Theresa and Henry at the Donnybrook servo. Due to the new by pass Anthony has a little
trouble negotiating his way but finally got to the rendezvous. A truck gave us
some concern as it almost ran some of our group off the road.
A comfort
stop was made along the way where Dean used the time to adjust his handbrake, we then met up with Debbie, Ken and Shae at the fish and chip shop in Echuca. Once everyone had some food we continued on
our journey. Another stop was made for
fuel and bait and then we finally came to the beginning of the dirt road that
would lead us to our campsite.
Once we
finally reached camp we found Chris, Louise, Sarah, Jessica, Steve and Jess, Kirsty and Clintin, Bruno and
Emily (with their caravan). Camp was
established by the newcomers and the serious business of relaxing began.

It didn’t take Ken long to launch his speed
boat to begin the skiing. With Debbie at
the helm, Louise and Emily as passengers the day’s adventures began. Henry and Anthony tried the outboard on the
amphibious. Others just sat back and
enjoyed the break.

The
speed boat was a source of good fun till it lost its steering. Clintin and Anthony
went out to help the rowers bring it back to shore. Not to be deterred, emergency
work was commenced by Ken with some “bush mechanics” put into practice.
Bruno
and Emily tried their hand at yabbying but were unsuccessful. Hayley, Steve and
Shane decided to hold up score sheets for the show off skiers who kept us
entertained. The group prepared their tea while Ken attempted to fit into his
ski suit (which didn’t
quite fit!!!) so
he could go out for a barefoot ski.

After tea
the group got together for some socialising while Shane tried his luck at
fishing. He was happy to take home a nice
fish.
It was a slow start Sunday morning with campers either
enjoying breakfast or brunch. Bruno
started up the generator and made cappuccinos for all.

The ski
boat suffered another mishap, but unfortunately this time Ken could not fix
it. The rope from the bottles being used
as anchors became entangled around the prop and the shaft bent.

The
boat had to be taken out of the water and put back on the trailer.
Steve
and Jess, Shane, Theresa and Henry headed back about lunch time. The others stayed on till later in the
afternoon before making their way home. A good time was had by all and we hope
to return to the
